What are call extensions and how do I add them to my ad?

In Microsoft Advertising Editor, bulk manage call extensions and created shared call extensions to associate with multiple campaigns.

Call extensions

Call extensions have the added benefit of allowing you to designate your ads as call only ads. When you select call only ads, website links in your ads are not clickable from smartphones. Instead, your phone number is the only link that a user can click. Clicking on the phone number link will initiate a call to that number and you will be charged up to your bid amount (just as if the user had clicked on a website link).

With call extensions, you have two options: You can use your own phone number or use a Microsoft Advertising forwarding phone number. When using a forwarding number, we assign a unique phone number that displays in your ad. When a customer calls this number, the call is routed to your business phone number. Our forwarding number allows you to track all calls from this ad, no matter where the call was made from, so that you can analyze the ad performance.

Call extensions can be used together with location extensions. When these two features are used at the same time, the phone numbers displayed and the availability of click-to-call depend on the device where the ad is being viewed.

Ability to set up in: All Bing markets

Current eligible markets for creation: Argentina, Australia, Austria, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Denmark, Germany, Finland, France, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Italy, Malaysia, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Peru, Philippines, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, United Kingdom, United States, Venezuela, and Vietnam.

Serves in: Available in the United States and United Kingdom on all devices. Available in all other Bing markets on smartphones only, except for China.

Create a shared call extension

  1. Select Shared Library in the left pane and make sure you're in the Shared Call Extensions view.
  2. Select Add Call Extension and add the call details in the Editor pane.

Associate an existing call extension to a campaign

  1. Select the campaign or ad group from the tree view in the left pane.
  2. Select Call Extensions under Ads and extensions from the type list in the left pane.
  3. In the data view, select Add associations and select Add campaign Call Extension association.
  4. Select the ad group or campaign you want to add a call extension > Next.
  5. Select the call extension to use.
  6. Select OK.

Note: Making edits to the call extension association will also change the shared call extension. Any associations that link to this shared call extension will also be changed.

Edit a call extension association

  1. Select the campaign or ad group from the tree view in the left pane.
  2. Select Call Extensions under Ads and extensions from the type list in the left pane.
  3. In the data view, select the call extension you want to edit.
  4. In the edit pane, edit the call details.
