Access your Facebook account from Bing Bar
Find out how to sign in to Facebook, update your status, comment on updates from friends and much more.
The Facebook button on Bing Bar makes it easy for you to see your Facebook friends' status updates, photos, and messages. You can quickly update your status, comment, or like a friend's status update, and stay up to date with new messages, notifications, and friend requests.
Sign in to your Facebook account

The permissions that you provide here will apply to both Bing Bar and Bing. This means that by connecting Facebook to the Bing Bar you are also connecting Facebook to Bing search as well.
- Click the Facebook button
on Bing Bar.
- Click Login to Facebook.
- Type your email address and password, and then click Log in.
- The first time you use the Facebook button, you're prompted to give permission to Bing to see your information. Click Allow.
Your data is kept private and won't be stored on your computer or anywhere else. You'll only need to give permission once.
Bing uses these permissions to provide you with enhanced search results and a more personalized experience, all with the help of your friends from Facebook. The social search results you'll see use public information and, if permissions are given, private information as well from Facebook to bring the most relevant results to the top.
Bing doesn't share anything automatically with anyone. You share only the searches, results, and comments you choose to post on Facebook from Bing as well as likes, photos, and public information you've given your permission to share.
Update your status
- Click the Facebook button
on Bing Bar.
- At the top of the Facebook window, click in the text box.
- Type your new status message, and then click Share.
Comment on a friend's update
The News Feed in the Facebook window on Bing Bar shows the latest status updates from your friends.
- Click the Facebook button
on Bing Bar.
- Below the update you want to comment on, click Comment.
- Enter your message, and then click Comment.
See comments made by others
- Click the Facebook button
on Bing Bar.
- The total number of comments (if any) that other Facebook users have left for a particular update is displayed next to the comment icon
. To see the comments, click the comment icon.
- If there are more comments than you can see from Bing Bar, click View All to open the comment list on the Facebook website.
See an update's number of Likes
- Click the Facebook button
on Bing Bar.
- The total number of Likes (if any) that other Facebook users have left for each update is displayed next to the Like icon

See recent photos posted by your friends
- Click the Facebook button
on Bing Bar.
- Click Photos.
- Do one or more of the following:
- To see the album name or photo caption, point to the album or photo.
- To open a photo on the Facebook website, click the photo.
See friend requests
- Click the Facebook button
on Bing Bar.
- If you have any friend requests, the number of requests is displayed next to the Friend Requests icon
. To see the requests, click the Friend Requests icon.
- If there are more friend requests than you can see from Bing Bar, click View All to open the comment list on the Facebook website.
- To respond to a friend request, click the person's name, and then choose whether to confirm or ignore the request.
See messages
- Click the Facebook button
on Bing Bar.
- If you have unread messages, the number of messages is displayed next to the Messages icon
. To see the message list, click the Messages icon.
- If there are more messages than you can see from Bing Bar, click View All to open the message list on the Facebook website.
- To open a message on the Facebook website, click the message title. The titles of unread messages are displayed in bold.
See notifications
- Click the Facebook button
on Bing Bar.
- If you have any notifications, the number of notifications is shown next to the Notifications icon
. To see the notifications list, click the Notifications icon.
- If there are more notifications than you can see from Bing Bar, click View All to open the notifications list on the Facebook website.
- To open the source of a notification on the Facebook website, click the notification title.
Turn on Facebook alerts
The Facebook button on Bing Bar can show you pop-up alerts when your friends send you messages or when you receive a new Facebook notification or friend request. Bing Bar checks for new Facebook activity about every ten minutes.
- Click the Facebook button
on Bing Bar.
- Click Options.
- Select the Display alerts for new Facebook messages, notifications and friend requests check box.
- Click Close.
